The Inside-Out Approach

I just finished bicycling 503 miles with a climbing elevation gain of 26,163 feet!

I know this is a strange title for this, but you will see why I think you will find it interesting. It is about staying healthy to do what you enjoy. I enjoy personal growth and exploring. My recent trip bicycling Alberta and British Columbia allowed me both exploring adventure and personal challenge. Living off my bicycle while enjoying the beautiful glacial lakes, crystal clear rivers, impressive mountains and incredible wild life is a trip of a lifetime.

Most people ask the question, “How can you pedal all day and carry your tent etc on your bike? Isn’t that hard to do…I could never do that.” The truth is that we can usually do whatever we truly want to do. Sometimes it takes more preparation to be able to accomplish our goals. According to the chiropractic philosophy, true health comes from within us, not to us. I am thankful that I get to live every day of my life with this understanding, and I get to take that approach.  Medicine tends to have a more outside in way of thinking.

The “inside-out” way of life allows me to help my patients learn how to help themselves feel better, faster while also addressing the underlying causes of their current situation. With my patients, the cause of their back pain is not due to the lack of pain killers in their system, but are likely due to a muscle, joint, nerve or disc problem. Once we discuss that the pain is just a warning alarm telling you to stop doing what’s causing the problem and go see Dr. Burr, it makes sense to treat the cause and not the symptom only.

Your body is a self-healing mechanism that requires no interference and to be supplied with key ingredients for optimum function pain free, full of energy and a vibrant human being enjoying their lifestyle. Whether that lifestyle includes adventure cycle touring with the bears, fox, moose, mountain goats like I did or going after your dream vacation/weekend/activity, you want to be as healthy as possible. Let’s face the facts, without our health nothing else matters. You can’t perform at work, enjoy your days off, or live the lifestyle that you desire.
