ICE vs HEAT

ICE vs HEAT

There is a lot of confusion here and even between healthcare providers.

Ice for acute pain/inflammation-based problems for 20 minutes max every two hours max while protecting the skin from burns.

Heat is for more chronic, tight, stiff and maybe arthritic areas.

When in doubt with joint pains, it is safer to try ice first, because applying heat to an inflamed areas can increase inflammation even a few hours later even though it felt good when applied.
